Tyne Tees Transport

No trains have been able to run under the River Tyne for almost two weeks due to concerns over the structural safety of the Gateshead flyover.

It is hoped the work will allow Tyne and Wear Metro services to travel between Heworth and Monument again as soon as possible.

Nexus said it might not be possible to keep services south of the Tyne running for the whole period the tunnels are shut as it cannot maintain the trains.
